Plants vs. Zombies is solidly rooted in the tower defense genre, but it grows and branches in such a charming, accessible way that almost anyone can pick it up and have a lot of fun. The basic gameplay is pleasantly engaging, but it will take seasoned defenders a few hours before they can play legitimately challenging levels. Fortunately, Plants vs. Zombies rolls out new units and environments at a good pace, and the mini games, puzzles, and Survival mode offer some clever and challenging diversions. It's a delightful game that is both addictive and accessible, and you'll never look at your garden the same way again.

Plants vs. Zombies mixes two very unlikely enemies in this charming and fun tower defense game. There is a horde of goofy zombies on the loose full of pole-vaulters, snorkelers, and Zamboni drivers and it is up to you to fill your garden with a wide array of protective plants, be it peashooters, sunflowers, wall-nuts, or cherry bombs.

The game play itself is strongly in the realm of the tower defense genre where there are a set number of plots in your lawn where you can plant your plants and avenues which the zombies will then approach your house in waves.
